Commercial Bank since its incorporation, has been giving a pride of place to training initiatives. Whilst its formalised training function began in early 1980s, the present stature was however due to the gradual buildup of its tempo over the years. Today, the imposing building standing at No. 1, Union Place, Colombo 02 houses the Staff Development Center (SDC) in three of its floors. SDC has an auditorium (which could accommodate 150 persons), two Conference rooms, two medium sized Lecture Rooms, an IT Center, a mini Library and an Archives (which display items of historical interest pertaining to our bank and the Industry).

Undertakes Training Needs Analysis.
Formulates Training & Development plan.
Designing and conducting training programs on all Bank related areas & as well as

Managerial Skills Development, Quality based programs, Customer Care, Secretarial Training, Business Communications for all levels.

Developing a suitable evaluation feedback / evaluation mechanism, to measure the effectiveness of training inputs.
Psychometric Testing (Certified administrators of SHL (UK) tests).
Job Analysis & Competency Designing.
Design & Implementation of Assessment & Development Centers.
Initiating a counselling process & training of counselors.
Any other HRD related activities.
Auditorium facilities

The Staff Development Center (SDC) auditorium can be hired for Staff Training Activities, Conferences and Management Meetings. Details of facilities available and cost structure could be obtained from SDC.

Recent Activities of SDC

The Management Development Program at AIT Bangkok

It was November 2002 that our bank signed a historic MOU with Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) Bangkok to obtain their premium training services by conducting high quality training programs in Sri Lanka and at AIT Bangkok. The SDC conducted two programs in November 2002 and May 2003 respectively in Sri Lanka primarily for our external clients, with the resources of the AIT Extension, the Arm of AIT dealing with corporate training. This effort was inline with the corporate HRD Policy of Commercial Bank to bring high quality training within reach of corporates in Sri Lanka at affordable prices.



"Business Leadership in an Uncertain Environment" Program 1 -from 3-8 November 2003

Seminar on Banking Business and Industrial Relations in the Banking Sector for Labour Officers

At the request of the Commissioner General of Labour, another program of 1 day duration was held for the benefit of the newly recruited labour officers in June 2003. The program was attended by 31 officers and was well rated.
In December 2003, SDC conducted a similar program at a higher level for a group of newly promoted Assistant Labour Commissioners. 30 officers participated in this program.

How we could assist you

Our clients are kindly requested to communicate with the Staff Development Center

They may either make nominations for internal training programs conducted by SDC for the Bank Staff or
Discuss with the SDC their specific needs to enable the SDC to offer customized programs catering to such needs. On request arrangements could be made for one of our Executive officers to call over.
SDC also arranges public programs of general interest and would call for nominations at the appropriate time. An outline of the program schedule could be obtained from SDC on request.
Arrangements are being finalized to conduct premium training programs on management & banking operations related subjects, in collaboration with prestigious institutions in India , Singapore , Europe and USA . This would enable the local Business / Banking fraternity to benefit from such programs at a relatively lower cost than sending their people on training to overseas locations at a higher cost.
