Winter Cloth Distribution

CSR Activity in Notre Dame School
Country Manager of Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC Mr. S. Prabagar handing over a cheque to Rev. Father Benjamin Costa, Principal, Notre Dame College towards establishment of a scholarship fund for the poorest and meritorious students of the esteemed institution. CBC has undertaken to continue a two year program of financial assistance in support of developing the educational skills of 30 meritorious students of Notre Dame College. Under this scheme, every student will get a financial aid of BDT 27,500 per annum during the two years of their college education. Other senior officials of the bank were also present in the program. |

CBC upgraded to 'AAA' rating by CRISL
CBC has been upgraded to ‘AAA’ (Triple A) by CRISL for long term and was also reaffirmed ‘ST-1’ for short term based on the financial of 2010. Previously CBC had been awarded AA+ for three consecutive years.
The rating AAA by CRISL was based on bank’s asset quality, capital adequacy, financial and operating efficiency, risk management, etc.
Banks rated AAA are adjudged to be of best quality, offer highest safety and have highest credit quality. Risk factors are negligible and risk free, nearest to risk free Government bonds and securities. Short term rating “ST-1” represents the highest certainty on timely payment and safety is almost similar to the risk free Government short term obligations. Being one of the top rated foreign commercial banks, CBC is continuing its journey with a clear vision of “To be the Bank of Excellence in Service and Commitments”. |

CBC LAUNCHED "Safe Deposit Locker Service"
Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC launched Safe Deposit Locker Services for its valued customers. The formal Launching Ceremony took place on 3rd March 2011 at Commercial Bank’s Gulshan Booth premises.
Mr. A. L. Gooneratne, Managing Director graced the ceremony and handed over the keys to the customers in the presence of the Country Manager, Mr. S. Prabagar and other Management Members.
Presently Safe Lockers in two different sizes of Medium and large are available at its Gulshan Booth and Sylhet Branch.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon (CBC) arranged its "Annual Staff Conference 2011" at Dhaka Sheraton Hotel recently. Mr. A.L. Gooneratne, Managing Director graced the occasion as the chief guest.
This year’s staff conference was focused on the "Aim Excellence, Achieve Success". The country Manager Mr. S. Prabagar and other management members along with the chief guest in their speeches highlighted various important achievements of the bank during 2010 and focused on various aspects in line with the strategic direction of the bank.

CBC Donated Winter Clothes for intellectually challenged children and CSR Award 2008-2009
Commercial Bank of Ceylon (CBC) attended the program conducted by Bankers’ Forum namely “CSR Awards 2008-2009 & Winter Clothes distribution” where CBC donated 500 winter clothes among the intellectually challenged children recently as a part of its CSR activity.
Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed the ex-governor of Bangladesh Bank attended the program as the chief guest and handed over the CSR award to Mr. Dilip Das Gupta, Senior General Manager of Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC for Bank’s participation in CSR activities during 2008-2009. Other prominent personnel of the society were also present as guests of honour.

Commercial bank of Ceylon PLC (CBC) relocated its Gulshan Booth from 73, Gulshan Avenue, Dhaka to 49, Gulshan Avenue, Dhaka-1212 effective from 29th July 2010.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC awarded AA+ rating for 3rd consecutive year by CRISL
CBC is awarded with a rating of AA+ (Double A plus) for 3rd consecutive year for long term and ST-1 for short term, based on its 2009 Balance Sheet by Credit Rating Information and Services Ltd (CRISL). Mr. Muzaffar Ahmed President & CEO of CRISL is seen formally handing over the rating report to the Deputy General Manager-Int’l (Global Operations) Mr. Jegan Durairatnam in the presence of the other senior officials of the bank.
The rating AA+ by CRISL was based on its asset quality, capital adequacy, liquidity, diversification on product lines, IT infrastructure and corporate governance.
It may be mentioned that banks rated AA+ are of high credit quality with a sound credit profile, offering higher safety for long term while ST-1 represents the highest certainty on timely payment of liability in the shot term, almost similar to the risk free Government short term obligations. CBC is viewed with stable outlook for its steady business growth, stable financial and operating performance. |

Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC participated in the “Int’l Credit Card Fair” from May 21-23, 2010 at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka along with some other renowned banks of Bangladesh.
The main purpose for attending the fair was to promote the re-branded CBC Shopping Card and the newly launched Credit Card.
The event was organized by the renowned weekly magazine "The Financial Mirror" and this event is first ever of its kind to be held in Bangladesh. It also included all kind of Banking Products. |
CBC attended 3days long Int’l Education fair
Commercial Bank of Ceylon (CBC) has participated at the "7th Dhaka Int’l Education Fair" from 9 to 11 April at Dhaka Sheraton hotel which has been organized by E3 Solutions.
The main purpose of this fair is to guide the students intended getting higher education either at home or abroad and help them to choose the right career path. CBC facilitates the students by providing guidance for student remittance file and obtaining student loan to meet their educational expenses.

CBC Arranges Workshop for Corporate Clients
Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC, Bangladesh Operations has taken over an awareness program for its valued corporate clients to enhance the knowledge of their staff members in regard to the matters relating to Operational Risk while Handling Cash & Cheques.
On March 24, 2010, the first of such program was held for the concerned Executives of PRAN-RFL Group, one of the Bank’s most valued corporate customer at the Training Room of CBC Head Office in Dhaka.
An experienced Customer Services Manager and Head of Bank’s Dhanmondi Branch Mr. Mohammed Afzal Hamid conducted the Workshop while Mr. Mahmood Rashid, Head of Internal Control, Compliance and Audit responded to various questions raised by the participants.
The workshop was mainly done to create awareness regarding cash control and maintaining transaction security. It also focused on prevention from becoming a victim of cash scam, things to be considered before receiving cash payments/receipts and counterfeit notes. A Video presentation on identifying fake notes had also been played for explaining the methods to detect the counterfeit notes.
Mr. S. Prabagar, Country Manager, Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC formally inaugurated the program in presence of Ms. Uzma Chowdhury, CPA, Director–Finance of PRAN-RFL Group. Mr. Dilip Das Gupta, Senior General Manager and Mr. Dilan Rajapakse, Chief Operating Officer of the Bank were also present during the program. The Head of Human Resources and the concerned Senior Relationship Manager of the Bank have assisted in organizing the Workshop.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon (CBC) had its "Annual Staff Conference" at a city hotel recently, says a press release. Mr. Ravi Dias Chief Operating Officer of the bank graced the occasion as the chief guest.
This year’s staff conference mainly focused on the theme “Empower the Entrepreneur”. The Country Manager Mr. S. Prabagar in his speech highlighted on serving the SME sector through its 17 outlets. He also discussed on various important achievements of the bank during 2009. Few Branch managers were praised for their exceptional performance during the occasion.
The other management members along with the chief guest focused on various aspects in line with the strategic direction of the bank.

CBC and AB Bank Conclude One Month Term Transaction using DIBOR
Bangladesh Bank has officially launched Dhaka Inter-Bank Offered Rate (DIBOR) in Bangladesh Market on January 06, 2010. This came to success with able assistance from Bangladesh Foreign Exchange Dealers’ Association (BAFEDA). On the backdrop of it, Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC and AB Bank Limited initiated a 1 (one) month Term Transaction based on the newly launched DIBOR Benchmark on Thursday, January 08, 2010. This particular transaction has a unique feature of re-pricing the transaction in every week based on the published DIBOR of that period. Both the Banks agreed that taking this step forward will help to create a more vibrant financial market in Bangladesh.
Market experts are very much optimistic that official launch of DIBOR will encourage banks to quote two way on transactions thereby improving liquidity in the market. Having reference rate on term transaction will also help the development of the forward foreign exchange markets in Bangladesh.
CBC also completed the first training program to its Corporate Banking officials on the fundamentals and prospects of DIBOR after its official launching by Bangladesh Bank. |

CBC Launched Combank Global Credit Card
Commercial Bank of Ceylon (CBC) PLC has recently launched its Global Credit Card in Bangladesh at a simple ceremony held at the Bank’s Card Centre in Dhaka. The Managing Director of the Bank Mr. A. L. Gooneratne officially launched two types of their card called Combank Global Gold Card and Combank Global Classic Card for the convenience of their customers and cardholders.
Combank Global Credit Card offers billing in Taka for both local and international use, no exchange loss, accepted at over 26 million merchant outlets at home and abroad. CBC has also equipped themselves to provide 24/7 Call Centre to attend customers query on Card and other products and services.

CBC re-branded its Debit Card as Shopping Card
Commercial Bank of Ceylon (CBC) has re-branded and launched its Visa Debit Cards as SHOPPING CARD with attractive features, says a press release. It has also introduced 24hrs/7days Call Centre Service and launched Staff Credit Cards. The Program has taken place at its Card Centre-Dhanmondi.
It is another milestone in the history of bank’s overall direction and in near future the bank will also introduce a single Credit Card to the public which can be used locally as well as internationally.
Shopping Card can be used in shops, supermarkets and any place where Visa cards are accepted, for making payments for goods and services as well as to withdraw cash from ATM machines of CBC and DBBL at free of charge. The 24/7 Call Centre will attend to any customer query. |

CBC is awarded with a rating of AA+ (Double A plus) for 2nd consecutive year for long term and ST-1 for short term, based on its 2008 Balance Sheet by Credit Rating Information and Services Ltd (CRISL). CBC Opened its 7th Branch at Mirpur
CBC opened its 7th Branch at Mirpur, Parbata Plaza, 203 Senpara Parbata, Begum Rokeya Sharani, Dhaka-1216 on 26th April 2009.
The Ceremonial opening was presided over by the MD of CBC MR. A. L. Gooneratne and the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka in Bangladesh H.E. V. Krishnamoorthy.
The Managing Director and the Country Manager both focused on the Bank’s attractive products and services by which the Mirpur Business people and Residents will be benefited. They also emphasized on the Bank’s CSR projects.

CBC held its 5th Annual Staff Conference
Commercial Bank of Ceylon (CBC) arranged its “Annual Staff Conference 2008” at a city hotel recently. Mr. Gamini Dharmasiri DGM-Corporate Banking and Mr. C.M. Abeysekara Head of Corporate Banking from Sri Lanka graced the occasion.
This year’s staff conference was focused on the “Serve the Savers”. The country Manager Mr. S. Prabagar in his valued speech highlighted on the customer service standards and spoke on the branch performance, expanding branch and SME centres along with introducing new and challenging products and services as well.
The other management members along with the chief guest also spoke focusing on the development in different arena of the bank.

Commercial Bank of Ceylon (CBC) has signed a Master Repurchase Agreement with Southeast Bank Limited (SBL) for the purpose of trading on Repo/Reverse Repo against T-bills/bonds and other government securities in Dhaka recently, says a press release. Chief Operating Officer of CBC Mr. S. Prabagar and Deputy Managing Director of SBL Mr. Syed Imtiaz Hasib signed the agreement on behalf of their banks.
